Murder Mystery

Last night Drew and I attended the reading of the Will for Ms. Helen Astor Roosevelt. She perished a year ago. The reading was held at the Astor's Beechwood Mansion in Newport. Although the home is beautiful, the family is plagued with the mystery and mayhem that often come with riches.

We had a fabulous time, and the date night was much needed. We are hoping to go back for more events that will be happening in the future!

Heroes!

Oh my goodness, this show is horribly addicting. We are working on two evenings of hero watching. We are almost through Season 1, so I guess that means I need to order Season 2. I am bummed that Season 2 is only 11 epidodes. It is definately a treat being able to watch one episode right after the other (via dvd). This show leaves such a cliffhanger, than I can imagine it will be very difficult to wait a whole week for the new episodes, once we are finally caught up and watching the new ones.

So if you watch, don't tell me anything. As far as I know, Peter hasn't blown up NYC yet, and poor Hiro, is lost in his future!

What to do?

Yesterday, I had a surprisingly busy day! It was a nice distraction though, and I think I prefer the impromptu busy days than the planned ones. I had breakfast with a friend (at noon!), but we had a great time just chatting and being amused at what we didn't know we had in common. Later, I helped to celebrate the anniversary (of a child's) of three years on earth. Its very easy to know you are appreciated, when you show up, and you your name is being shouted from fifty feet away, as little legs carry outstretched arms to give you a hug. Why doesn't my husband greet me this way?

Dinner on the boat was the culmination of my early evening. I was planning to go sing karaoke, but I knew I wouldn't last a time that was going to be worth going alone, so I opted to crawl in bed and veg-out.

Drew and I have decided to make "Heroes" our show. We are doing this three seasons late, so we have to catch up. I predict we will be caught up very soon, because the show is very addicting. Drew started watching it with some of the JO's on the last underway. He thought it would be a fun show we watch together. As we don't regularly watch tv in the evenings, I figured it would be fun to have "a show" together. I am not sure if this means that I have to skip it while he is gone, but there is no way this is happening with this one. So last week, I ordered it, and I am through the 8th chapter. Its definately fantastic.

Shortbread cookies!

I love shortbread cookies, and I found a cute little cookie on foodgawker.com, and I was super anxious to make. They were very yummy. I tried dipping them in chocolate with the leftover chocolate from bonbons this weekend, but thought they might be better with a mint flavored chocolate so I added a little Creme de Menthe. Well, the chocolate was wonderful, but it seemed to lose a necessary consistentcy for dipping. The cookies still taste good without the chocolate.

As the cookies I made are only about an inch big, I think I might try making another batch today!

October, already?

Well fall is finally here, and I have decided that my hiatus from blogging should be over. It has been a very long month, as the husband was gone, but now he is home, and we will try to resume some sense of normalcy.

I have been keeping myself very busy, with the girls, over the last few weeks, and amongst the birthday parties, wardroom fun, and shopping excursions, I am ready for some quality time with the husband.

I am anxiously looking forward to our vacation time this month from the boat, and from CT. Hopefully we will be able to enjoy the trip to Florida, and also the a few relaxing days after we get home. There is nothing worse than needing a vacation after a vacation.
