Too many months without the men folk....
means that I have to have a different frame of mind when I call one of my girlfriends on the phone. For so long, when I would call them, of course there is a female voice on the other end. The boat has been home a month now, but subtract the vacation weeks, I have only been making these phone calls for a few weeks. It totally throws me for a loops when a male voice answers. I have a momentary pause....who did I call, and who is this answering the phone? For my wonderful San Juan friends, I will try to remember that your husbands are home now, and have every right to answer their telephone.

U.S. Submarine San Juan Visits South Africa - US AFRICOM News
U.S. Submarine San Juan Visits South Africa - US AFRICOM News
So even if I cannot remember exactly where the husband is planning to go, the world news agencies will keep up with it for me. Its pretty cool that they get to go play games with other countries. Hopefully the husband will bring me a souvenir native to Africa......a diamond!
Update: No sooner than I posted this, but the husband calls!

If Dr. Seuss were in the Navy....
So it is still such a long way off, but I got to thinking about it tonight, and it just came to me. Enjoy!
‘Twas the night before homecoming
And out on the pier
Not a creature was stirring
‘Cept for the watch standers near
The hustle and bustle
Of the San Juan return
Could almost be heard
It was almost their turn
The parking, the crowds
Are headaches for sure,
Don’t worry, Its worth it
Just one midnight tour!
The deployment was over
Stand down was near
The women were primping
The children would cheer
Ready your cover
Ready your gear
It is time to meet us
The date, it is here!
The ORSE is completed
The paperwork done
Just blow that horn
And come out for the sun
I see my dear sailor
The heart missed a beat
With flowers in hand
He is always so sweet!
It takes a strong wife
To wait for that vessel
It’s a hard navy life
But each moment is special
If you’re unlucky, like me
And he’s stuck with duty
Don’t fret don’t you worry
You’re still such a cutie
Dinner on the boat
Can be quite a treat
Even if the air
Smells like dirty feet
So one more wakeup
‘Til my day is here
He can finally come home
And leave that darn pier.
Now, My sailor is home
You know what comes next
So leave me alone,
Its time for some CENSORED.
*************
Now don't steal my rhyme
Neither the stanza nor verse
I claim it as mine
And fraud is the worst
If you're a putz
And don't like my writing
Leave me a comment
And you can try rhyming!
But all just the same
Comment love is so sweet
Thanks for visiting my blog
You are all such a treat!

San Juan Mug
The guys all have mugs that they use when they go to happy hour at the dive.
Some of the ladies decided that we wanted one also. Willow's hubby ordered one for her many moons ago. The ladies will often go to the dive to socialize when the rest of the wardroom goes, and it is always a good time. The boys' mugs all have their nicknames on them. So I had the appropriate name included on my mug. Kevin Young would always make me announce myself as "Mrs. Roo" when I called. Just saying "this is Alicia" would never work.
We decided to order mugs for ourselves.
Unfortunately Mr. Patton wanted to make sure we had the special "wife's" dolphins which prominently feature a mop and a broom in the insignia. He ordered this version for us. This is the same version Willow has so, we all match. I guess it is fair. I have not really earned any real dolphins.
We decided to order mugs for ourselves.

The countdown is on...
Well, its February, and I can start to safely say we have year left on the boat. It is exciting to know that this will end in the forseeable future, and we can start a new chapter in our lives.
Its is amazing to think that we have been here two years. I know despite Drew's long hours we will miss the community of wonderful people on the boat, but I will be happy to go!

Holiday Party
We had the boat Holiday party last night, and it was alot of fun! I got to wear my new dress from Express, and although slightly overdressed, it was fun to wear. I have to say-this year's party was much better than last year's party. This is probably due to actually KNOWING more people on the boat. Last year, I knew noone, and I felt a little out of place.
We also won a fantastic prize of a gift certificate to Margaritaville (at the Mohegan Sun). Drew and I will have to plan a night out before he leaves, but this should be be to hard!
This morning, we are off to the dog park. The dog needs to release some energy, hopefully it will not be too crowded!
